A small group of South African domainers started this board after years of scattered WhatsApp groups and dead mailing lists. Today it is a plain, working forum: dense thread lists, visible post counts, and members who post comps and screenshots instead of slogans. This page covers the people behind it, the rules we keep, and how the boards grew from a single appraisal thread into the sections you see now.
Domain Brokerage Group started because too many domain conversations happen in private messages, where nobody can check the numbers. A seller quotes a figure, a buyer nods, and the rest of the room never learns what a .co.za name actually moved for last quarter.
Appraisal threads ask for comps, dates and screenshots. If you post a name with an ask, be ready to show what similar names went for and when. Vague hype gets ignored here.
Members will tell a first-time buyer when a name is not worth renewing. That is the point. A polite no saves more money than a flattering maybe.
Registrar transfers, WHOIS corrections, renewal calendars and dispute threads sit next to the sales boards. Most deals stall in admin, not in negotiation.
The beginner corner exists so people can ask basic questions without being talked down to. Registration is free, and reading the boards first is encouraged.
What we expect in return: post real timelines, keep marketplace listings honest, and treat escrow walkthroughs as shared reference material rather than private leverage.
Domain Brokerage Group started as a handful of South African domainers comparing notes in a group chat. The boards, the appraisal format and the escrow walkthroughs all came later, added one problem at a time.
2016
The first members were buyers and sellers working mostly in .co.za. Threads were informal, but the habit of posting the actual number and the comparable sale stuck from the beginning.
2018
Members wanted straight answers instead of encouragement. The rule that an appraisal request must include an ask and at least two recent comps came out of a long argument in the general thread.
2020
A run of stalled .co.za handovers pushed the community to document the step order: EPP code, registrar confirmation window, payment release. That write-up is still the reference thread new members are pointed to.
2022
Fixed-price listings and wanted ads moved into their own section so the discussion boards stayed readable. Around the same time, first-time buyers got a corner where a name can be questioned without a sales pitch.
Today
The room now spans South Africa, the UK and North America, with drop-catching, outbound and portfolio housekeeping threads running alongside the admin nobody enjoys: renewals, WHOIS records and dispute stories.
Who runs this room
Domain Brokerage Group started as a small email list between a handful of South African domainers who were tired of appraisal threads full of guesswork. Today it is a working forum: aftermarket negotiation, escrow walkthroughs for .co.za and .com, drop-catching notes, outbound approaches, and the admin nobody enjoys — renewals, registrar transfers, WHOIS records and the occasional dispute.
The membership leans South African but the boards run in English and pull in buyers, sellers and portfolio holders from further afield. What holds it together is a simple rule: post real numbers, screenshots and timelines. No hype, no vague "this name is worth a lot" posts.
We keep the tone direct. If a name is weak, the room says so. If a deal has a snag, someone has usually hit it before and will walk you through the order of steps. First-time buyers get the same straight answer as someone holding two hundred names — just with more patience.
