Messages

Private notes between members, appraisal follow-ups and the odd thread that moved off the board. This is where the back-and-forth that does not belong in a public post ends up, kept in one place so you can pick it back up later.

Getting a reply from the moderation desk

Messages sent through the site land in the same queue the moderators read between thread checks. If your note is about a locked thread, a marketplace listing that needs editing, or a member account that will not log in, say so in the first line. It saves a round trip. Anything about a specific name, an appraisal or a stalled transfer belongs in the relevant board first, where other members can weigh in before a moderator steps in.

Weekend traffic is lighter. Posts made late Friday or over Saturday often sit until Monday morning, so if a listing has a deadline, flag it in the subject line.

Response windows

  • Account and login issues Usually answered within one working day, often sooner.
  • Listing and thread reports Reviewed in the order they arrive, typically same day on weekdays.
  • Escrow and transfer questions Passed to the members who run the walkthrough threads; allow two to three days.
  • Weekends and public holidays Slower. Expect a reply on the next working morning.

Where to send it

Email is the reliable route for anything that needs a written record, such as a registrar transfer that has stalled or a WHOIS detail that looks wrong.

Before you write

Most questions already have a thread. The beginner corner covers first-time purchases and whether a name is worth keeping. The appraisal board is where you post a name with your ask and let the room respond. Transfer and escrow walkthroughs sit in their own board with the step order members actually use.

How we read the boards, and where the lines sit

Messages on this forum are written by members, not by us, and a few standing rules keep the appraisal and negotiation threads usable. These notes settle the questions that come up most often in private messages.

Appraisal posts are opinions, not valuations

When a member replies to your appraisal request, that is one person reading your name against the comps they can find. It is not a certified valuation, and it is not a promise of what a buyer will pay. Treat the range as a starting point for your own decision.

Comps need a date and a source

A comparable sale quoted without a date or a place it was recorded is close to useless. If you post a comp in a thread, say where it came from and when it closed. Older comps stay in the thread but should be labelled as such.

Private messages stay private

Offers, buyer names and contact details shared in a direct message are not fair game for a public thread. If a negotiation breaks down and you want the room's view, post the situation without the other party's identity or the exact figures they sent you.

Marketplace listings carry their own terms

Fixed-price posts in the marketplace section are the seller's stated terms. A reply in the thread does not create a binding agreement, and neither does a direct message. Escrow and transfer steps are agreed separately, in writing, before any name moves.

Registrar and WHOIS details change

Transfer walkthroughs and WHOIS notes are written from what members saw at the time of posting. Registrar interfaces, confirmation windows and .co.za paperwork do shift. Check the current process with your registrar before you rely on an older thread.

Moderation removes posts, not opinions

Threads get trimmed when they drift into personal attacks, repeated off-topic posts or unsolicited offers. Disagreeing with an appraisal is fine and stays up. What comes down is the noise around it, and the removal is logged in the thread.

If a message you received does not match any of the above, forward it to the moderation team through the contact page rather than replying in the thread.
